Heryanto2014_frankfurt brings forward the hypothesis that modern communication media like Twitter resembled oral cultures more than written cultures. I think this is not to be seen uncritically, but it's an highly interesting idea. Astonishingly I just found that McLuhan2001_frankfurt proposed the same in the case of radio and television (pg. 29).
